Product Description

Packing, Container Loading and Delivery for Melamine Faced Plywood Exports

A decorated panel can survive eighteen months of warehouse storage and still be ruined by one badly packed container. Packing and loading are the last controllable stage of quality, and the choices made here determine whether the goods arrive as panels or as scrap.

Packing Standard

Element Purpose
Interleaving sheets Prevent face-to-face scratching of decorated surfaces
Bottom and top protection board Shield the first and last panel from damage and moisture
Corner protection Absorb impact at the most vulnerable points
Edge protection strip Prevent chipping along panel edges
Waterproof wrapping Block moisture during sea transit and port storage
Steel or plastic strapping Keep the pack rigid and square through handling
Pallet or wooden crate Support the pack and allow forklift handling

Loading Considerations

  • Weight limits — confirm the payload limit of the container and the road regulations at the destination before finalising quantities.
  • Weight distribution — spread load evenly along the container floor; concentrate heavy packs over the chassis, not at the doors.
  • Vertical or flat loading — panels are usually loaded flat on pallets or crates to prevent bowing; confirm the agreed method in writing.
  • Void filling — block empty space so packs cannot shift in transit.
  • Lashing — secure every pack so it cannot move under braking or heavy sea conditions.

Moisture is the invisible risk. Sea freight crosses several climate zones. Waterproof wrapping, dry packing materials and, where appropriate, desiccant control condensation damage that is only discovered on unpacking.

Container Types and Loading Efficiency

Standard sheets of 1220 x 2440 mm are dimensioned to load efficiently into 20 ft and 40 ft containers. Mixed thicknesses, cut-to-size panels and crated packs change the achievable loading quantity, so the loading plan should be confirmed against the actual order rather than assumed from a standard sheet count. A loading plan prepared before production avoids last-minute adjustments at the warehouse.

Documents and Delivery

  • Packing list with quantities per pallet and per thickness
  • Container loading photograph or inspection record where agreed
  • Test reports and certification matching the specified classes
  • Shipping documents issued in line with the agreed trade terms

Unloading and Site Storage

On arrival, unload with proper lifting equipment and store panels flat on dry bearers under cover. Do not store decorated panels on edge, and do not leave packs in contact with a concrete floor or in direct sunlight. Leave the wrapping in place until the panels have acclimatised to the workshop, then unwrap and allow them to stabilise before machining.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many panels fit in a 20 ft container?

It depends on thickness, core density, panel size and whether goods are palletised or crated. Ask for a loading plan calculated against your specific specification.

How are melamine faced panels protected from moisture in transit?

Waterproof wrapping, protective boards, dry packing materials and, where required, desiccant inside the pack.

Are panels loaded flat or on edge?

They are normally loaded flat on pallets or crates to prevent bowing and edge damage. The agreed loading method should be stated in the order.

Can different thicknesses share one container?

Yes. Mixed thicknesses with the same decor are commonly consolidated, subject to weight limits and a workable loading plan.

Request a packing and loading plan for your specification and destination port.
